Summary

When compared to other managed WordPress hosting providers, WPX Hosting stacks up pretty well. With plans starting at $24.99 per month, it’s also affordable even for newly built WordPress sites. If you’re ready to upgrade your hosting experience, I’d strongly recommend giving WPX Hosting a try.

What Is WPX Hosting?

WPX Hosting is a managed WordPress hosting provider that touts itself as the “fastest WordPress hosting.”

Terry Kyle founded WPX Hosting in 2013. Unlike other CEOs of hosting companies, Terry has been involved in the hosting industry since 1998. Moreover, Terry launched WPX Hosting because of his awful experience with hosting providers.

WPX Hosting Pricing

The thing that deterred me away from managed WordPress hosting in the beginning was the higher cost (when compared to shared hosting). WPX Hosting has managed to solve that issue (yes, this website is now hosted by none other than WPX Hosting).

WPX Hosting Plans & Pricing

WPX Hosting keeps things simple with its hosting plans and pricing. There are three hosting plans to choose from: Business, Professional, and Elite. The only difference between the three plans is the number of websites you can host, the amount of storage space, and the amount of bandwidth you can use.

There are no visitor limits like you can see with many other hosting providers. This comes in handy if you have a website with high traffic. Although, I’d assume that WPX Hosting will force you to upgrade to a more expensive hosting plan if your website is using a lot of resources.

Moreover, it’s nice to see that the entry-level Business plan can host up to five websites. If you own multiple websites or manage websites for your clients, the $24.99 per month fee for this plan is very attractive. Don’t forget that WPX Hosting offers a discount if you decide to pay in full for the year

Keep in mind though, WPX Hosting counts any staging sites you’re using towards the number of hosted websites under your account.

WPX Hosting also offers a 30-day refund guarantee should you change your mind or decide their hosting is not suitable for your site.

✅ WPX Hosting Pros

There are things about WPX Hosting that I really like so I’ve compiled the below list of pros:

1. Installing WordPress & Migrating A Website

By now, I’d assume you know WPX Hosting is solely for sites built with WordPress. It doesn’t work on any other kind of sites (e.g. Drupal, Joomla or Squarespace).

If you have an existing WordPress website that’s hosted with a different hosting provider, you can submit a free migration request and the support team will transfer your entire site over to your WPX Hosting account. It doesn’t matter if you’re transferring an existing WordPress site from a shared host, dedicated server, VPS, or another managed host.

For those starting a new website, you can install WordPress right from your WPX Hosting account. Even if you’re new to WordPress, you’ll enjoy the simplicity here. When you add a new site to your WPX Hosting account, you can just check the box to install WordPress.

Once you check that box, the second steps pops up. Here you set up your login credentials that you’ll use to log in to your WordPress site:

You also have the option to install and configure the W3 Total Cache plugin for page caching and improving site performance. I personally use WP Rocket for page caching.

Other than the option to install W3 Total Cache, WPX Hosting carries out a simple, clean WordPress installation without all the additional clutter. Unlike many other web hosts, no additional themes or plugins are installed. Just the default Hello Dolly and Akismet plugins are pre-installed, as well as a last few versions of the default WordPress theme (e.g. Twenty Twenty-Two theme).

So, in a matter of minutes, you’ll have a WordPress site that you can start customizing. Moreover, you’ll have a WordPress dashboard without all of the clutter.

2. Unlimited E-Mail Accounts

I’m not a big fan of having a hosting account at one place and then being forced to obtain e-mail elsewhere. Well, that’s what you’d have to do with other managed WordPress hosting providers.

Luckily, WPX Hosting offers unlimited e-mail accounts with all of their hosting plans. To set up an e-mail address, go to the e-mail boxes page that can be found on the left navigation menu. From there, click on add an e-mail box and complete the details for the particular e-mail address you’re setting up.

You can also add e-mail aliases and forwarding. Moreover, you have the option to control the amount of disk space is given to a particular e-mail address.

WPX Hosting does allow you to connect your e-mail account to Outlook too, which is must today.

Although WPX Hosting is one of the very few managed WordPress hosting providers that offers free e-mail, I found it extremely basic. Nonetheless, it’s included and there if you want to use it.

I personally use Google Workspace, which is about $6 a month.

3. Support Is Fast

Where most others fail, WPX Hosting truly excels. Lets be honest, hosting support is something we all take into consideration.

Well, WPX Hosting has an exceptional support team. The average response time via chat is 30 seconds. I’m not sure that can be beat.

Other hosting providers like WP Engine place you in queues, and you end up waiting minutes, if not hours.

Although, WPX Hosting does cater to a much smaller customer base when compared to bigger hosting providers like WP Engine. So it’s almost a must to have such quick response times.

Moreover, WPX Hosting has a support documentation section too. Here you can find step-by-step walkthroughs of cloning your website, installing WordPress multi-site, using FileZilla, utilizing WebP images and more.

4. Hosting Server Locations

WPX Hosting Server Locations

WPX Hosting has three data center locations: Chicago (US), London (UK) and Sydney (Australia). These locations are strategically placed across the globe to maximize the performance of all websites.

You’re able to choose which data center location you want to use to host your site.

Also, WPX Hosting includes custom, high-speed CDN (Content Delivery Network), free of chargers.

5. No Restriction On Themes & Plugins

Unlike other hosting providers (e.g. WP Engine), WPX Hosting doesn’t have restrictions on any themes or plugins that you can install and use.

For safety and security, WPX Hosting forbids the use of nulled (cracked or pirated) themes and plugins. These nulled themes and plugins are usually infected with a backdoor script called CryptoPHP.

6. WPX Hosting Is Fast

There’s no debate here. WPX Hosting is very fast.

I’ve monitored the performance for three of my sites that are hosted with WPX Hosting. Each website uses the Astra theme, WP Rocket, Elementor and about 10-15 other plugins. The average page loading speed is between the range of 574ms and 717ms.

As mentioned earlier, this site (EcommerceMojo.com) is hosted by WPX Hosting. Here’s how it performed during a speed check:

WPX Hosting also guarantees an uptime of 99.95%.

Since I’ve been with WPX Hosting, I have no complaints about the hosting performance or uptime.

I do, however, have an issue with their claims of being the “fastest WordPress hosting,” which you can read about further down in this review.

7. WPX Hosting Is Secure

Aside from being able to afford hosting, I always look at the security features that are included. You can have a fast website and super fast support. But none of that will matter if your website is constantly hacked or filled with malware.

Much like other premium hosting providers, WPX Hosting does an excellent job protecting your site. Here’s some of the security features that are included with every hosting plan:

  • Hybrid DDos protection
  • Brute-Force protection
  • Daily malware scans and removals
  • Web Application Firewall (WAF)
  • Daily backups (stored for 28 days)
  • Let’s Encrypt SSL certificate
  • Automatic WordPress updates

There’s no question about it, WPX Hosting has top-level security on their hosting servers. And the best part, it doesn’t cost you anything extra.

8. Near Perfect Trustpilot Rating

Real reviews from people actually using the product go a long way. If you’re not familiar with Trustpilot, it’s an independent site that hosts reviews from customers that use various products and services.

WPX Hosting TrustPilot Review Rating

Well, WPX Hosting has a 4.9/5 star rating on Trustpilot. At the time of writing this WPX Hosting review, there are over 2,300 total reviews for WPX Hosting on Trustpilot. 96% of those reviews are 5-stars.

Their competitor WP Engine has a 3.0/5 star rating (200 total reviews) with 24% being 1-star reviews.

Not something to base you decision on but something to keep in mind.

❌ WPX Hosting Cons

WPX Hosting is far from perfect. These are the things that don’t impress me about WPX Hosting:

1. WPX Hosting Touts “Fastest WordPress Hosting”

I find this statement just absurd. Yes, WPX Hosting is very fast but there’s no real, independent data to support that they’re the fastest WordPress hosting provider. WPX Hosting is using data from Kevin Ohashi from WPHostingBenchmarks.

How do we know Kevin isn’t affiliated with WPX Hosting in some way? Well, we don’t and that’s why I hate it. And there’s just to much work involved in testing all web hosts without being compensated in some way.

This probably won’t be a deal breaker in many cases but It’s worth knowing.

2. No Phone Support

While WPX Hosting has awfully fast response via live chat and e-mail, it doesn’t offer phone support. Maybe it has something to do with them being based out of Bulgaria.

Nonetheless, phone support assures some that they’re speaking to a real human being. It’s possible WPX Hosting finally adds phone support in the future.

3. No Free Domain

Most web hosting providers offer a free domain name as an incentive to buy hosting from them. Regrettably, WPX Hosting doesn’t offer a free domain with any of their hosting plans.

At times during certain promotions, WPX Hosting may offer a free domain. But it’s not something you’ll see on a regular basis.

I personally like to keep my hosting and domains separated. Unless I’m getting a free domain with a hosting provider, I register all my domains on NameCheap

4. Limited Disk Space

Disk space quota is limited to 15 GB for the Business plan, 30 GB for the Professional plan and 60 GB for the Elite plan.

WPX Hosting Limited Storage Space

The available disk space is on the low end. Looking at the Business plan that hosts up to five websites. That would give you 3 GB of disk space per site.

Once you reach your disk quota, you won’t be charged any additional or hidden fees. You would get an error informing you that you have reached the limit of the disk space quota. However, you wouldn’t be able to store anything else on your site until you upgrade to a plan with a higher disk space quota.

WPX Hosting Review Conclusion

When compared to other leading managed WordPress hosting providers like WP Engine, WPX Hosting is affordable. The cost of hosting is lower and you get more value for your money (e.g. ability to host up to five sites for $24.99/month).

WPX Hosting is fast, and very easy to use. The three hosting plans keep things very simple, and installing WordPress is a breeze. Their free migration service will come in handy if you already have a WordPress website that is hosted elsewhere.

To sum things up, if you’re ready to upgrade your hosting experience, WPX Hosting is a fast, reliable, and affordable option for managed WordPress hosting.

However, if you don’t need all of the power and benefits of high-performance managed WordPress hosting, I’d recommend a high-quality shared hosting provider like SiteGround or InMotion Hosting. These hosting providers would give you more value for your requirements.

WPX Hosting Review: FAQS

1. Is WPX Hosting fast?

There’s no argument here: WPX Hosting is fast. How fast? That’s going to depend on your website, traffic, content, plugins, etc. All of the speed tests that you see in other WPX Hosting reviews are irrelevant because they aren’t testing YOUR website. Thus, you won’t have the same results.

2. Can I cancel WPX Hosting?

You have a full 30 days to cancel WPX Hosting and get a full refund.

3. Are there any WPX Hosting coupons?

The only ongoing deal right now is two months free hosting for paying for the full year. This deal doesn’t need a coupon code. WPX Hosting tends to offer other deals around holidays so be on the lookout.

4. Does WPX Hosting use cPanel?

While the WPX control panel uses many of the main functions of cPanel, it doesn’t actually use cPanel. WPX Hosting uses a custom control panel that’s simple to use.

5. Is WPX Hosting safe and secure?

Every WPX Hosting plan includes DDoS protection, SSL certificates, IP-based access control to your WPX account, and two-factor authentication. It’s safe and secure just like any other major hosting provider.

6. Does WPX Hosting sell domains?

They do sell domains with pricing starting at $13.99 per year for a .com extension. Every domain name purchase includes free Whois Privacy Protection for the life of the domain.
